Update to Serato 2.2.0 Beta Core Audio for the Rane SL 3 & Sixty-Eight

Looks like the Serato/Rane guys finally got around to making the SL-3 and the Rane Sixty-Eight are real sound card that has mutli use IN/OUT's, basically you can now use the soundcard with other programs, ie Ableton Live, Logic, and GarageBand to record your precious Vinyl to MP3 or FLAC.
Info from the Serato Newsletter:
"ASIO and Core Audio drivers for the Rane SL 3 and Sixty-Eight are now in Public Beta!

This means that now you can use your Rane SL 3 and Sixty Eight as a soundcard for any other application that supports ASIO or Core Audio, e.g. as a soundcard for Ableton Live when making phat trax in the studio."

iOS 4.2 for iPad Open New World for the Digital DJ

Apple released iOS 4.2 for the iPad, this means a lot to the music world. Why? Because Apple gave developers access to Core Midi and Core Audio. Im sure that youre wondering WTF does this mean to me?


Well for music apps it gives access to the music in iTunes. As for Midi, we are going to have direct access, instead of relying on Wifi. Previous to iOS 4.2 we had to rely on OSC to Midi thru WIFI (via OSCulator &  Touch OSC ) , and this scares a lot of djs and musicians being that its recommended by dj programs like Traktor and Serato to turn off Wifi and bluetooth while djing.



    

I will post more info and I get more familar with iOS 4.2 and Ill be reviewing more apps. If you have a music app, email me and Ill review your app and post it on this blog.

I have been titled the 1st Unofficial iPad dj (sorry Rana June) being that I was using Touch OSC and iTMDJ the same weekend that the iPad was released.

DJs that play only on Vinyl/CDs keeping it real?

A DJ to me is a forward think person, someone that's wants to be on the cutting edge and is not afraid to use technology to their advantage. Real DJ's bring something different to the decks! Serato/Ableton BRIDGE will allow djs to step into the "remixers and producers" world. Traktor and Maschine will do the same.



I have no problem keeping it real and playing Vinyl or CDs during a set, but it would be nice to have a quality DJ Mixer like a Pioneer DJM-800 to drop fx and add something to the set. I love playing with DJ's that play on vinyl or cd's being that it gives me the chance to educate them on new technology. Without making them feel stupid for not exploring DVS options on what makes DJ-ing easier on the back and not being limited to whats in their record crate or cd pouch.



Beatmatching by a real dj can be done in under 10 seconds and mixing a track from deck 1 to deck 2 is boring, step up your game or get out of the way.
